Laura Kaardal was born in June 1988 in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. She began her art career in grade 11, motivated by the art program at her high school. Her teacher introduced her to her first portrait clients. After a few months of drawing pencil portraits for her friends, Laura started producing high-quality portraits and marketing herself to the public. During this time, she also developed a talent with coloured pencils, selling numerous drawings of vibrant street scenes in addition to her well-known pencil portraits. She discovered that this was the career path that she wanted to follow.

In April 2008 Laura graduated with a Visual Arts Diploma at Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia. The program introduced her to a variety of new media, which contributed to her overall sense of what it means to be an artist. She came out of the program with a newfound love of painting. As she tries to find her place on the canvas, she continues to sell personalized portraits and coloured drawings to the public. With an established reputation in her hometown of Campbell River, Laura goes on to capture the attention of art enthusiasts around the world.
